フィールドワークにおいては本来は観察者はそこでおこっていることにかかわらないようにするが，著者はむしろそこに積極的にかかわっていく． それが結果にどのように影響しているのかはわからないままだ． また，(グループ) ダイナミクスがどのようにはたらいているのかもわからない． ただ，ボランティアが被災者によりそい，そのかたわらにいることが強調される．
著者のボランティアとしての経験は貴重だし，それをグループ・ダイナミクスの理論とむすびつけようとしているのもわかるが，説得力には欠ける．
